On Sunday at midday, Mr. Li drove us over to the students’ residence. We were greeted at the door by most of the girls. They were so excited to see us and we them! I know it will take me awhile to get to know their names and remember what how old they are and what they are studying. I really was taken by their genuine enthusiasm and warmth.
They cooked us the best meal we’ve had so far and we ate it cross-legged on the floor. I think a good project would be for the girls to share their favorite recipes, which CASF could put into a cookbook featuring each village. Then more people could taste the delicious food!
After lunch, Juli started interviewing each girl individually to learn more about their interests and how and why they became interested in pursuing their education. I had a chance to talk to a number of the girls at length about their families, their studies, and just whatever came to mind for all of us. I am impressed by their grasp of English and how easy it is to have a conversation with them.
